Dear Markus, It is good to hear from you. However, you focus a lot of attention on some obvious points that nobody disagrees with, while minimizing other more important issues. Nobody is trying to dictate the research that others can or cannot pursue. You and your group are certainly free to make weekly inter-technique combinations regardless of my opinions. That is obvious. The central point that you continue to ignore is that others are not equally free to pursue a research direction we believe is more significant -- namely, to study meaningful longer-term combinations. We cannot do so within the CPP context because the necesssary solutions are not available. (No, a few months is definitely not enough! And interpolating EOP rates from weekly samples is simply a waste of time, though you are clearly free to try it.) At Nice, not a single person spoke against the idea of collecting more long-term solutions, not even you. I think everybody there got the impression the IERS would request such solutions, as envisioned from the beginning in the CPP CfP. It is now apparent that you never intended to do that! Meanwhile, we have been patiently waiting for this request to be fulfilled. So, while you are not limited, we are (at least using the CPP solutions). And your decision to do this was made without any consultation or even communication. That is simply wrong and undermines the whole idea of a cooperative project. Sincerely yours, --Jim
