*************************************************************************** Gazette IERS Gazette IERS Gazette IERS Gazette IERS Gazette No 09, 31 October 1996 *************************************************************************** Title: Report of the 1996 IERS Workshop Authors: Chris Reigber, Martine Feissel The 1996 IERS Workshop was held at Paris Observatory, 14-16 October 1996. It was attended by about 80 scientists. The discussions dealt with the six topics on which the IERS Directing Board had asked external experts to report on possible extensions of IERS activities. The topics were as follows. 1: Missions 2: Astronomical reference frames 3: Vertical references 4: Crustal deformations 5: Unification of national datums 6: Global geophysical fluids The Workshop adopted a number of recommendations, that are available under anonymous ftp: ftp hpvlbi.obspm.fr (145.238.100.7) userid: anonymous passwd: your e-mail address directory: /pub/iersworkshop/reports The Directing Board met at the end of the Workshop and started to work on the implementation of these recommendations. It has established a list of possible actions to this end. Indeed the various responses will have different time frames. An additional meeting in December 1996 is scheduled to finalize the planning of actions. The final topic reports will be published in an IERS Technical Note later this year.
