Dear colleagues,

This message is to inform you on the outcome of the first round of CfP
events. Until 10 December 16 different institutions submitted a Letter
of Intent indicating their intention to prepare an individual or joint
proposal for participation in one or a number of components of the New
IERS.

The IERS Directing Board, meeting on December 13 in San Francisco,
expressed its satisfaction about this first outcome and earmarked a
number of specialists which will be asked to serve on the review panel.
It also decided that the final decision on the composition of the New
IERS will be made at the next board's meeting in Washington D.C. in
early June 2000.

I would like to mention that all institutions which have not submitted
a LOI yet could still - and are encouraged - to submit proposals.
Definite deadline for all proposal submissions is February 28, 2000.
