International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service

International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS)

Mission

The International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS) is a service of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), officially established in July 1999. It provides freely and openly available Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) and Lunar Laser Ranging (LLR) data, along with related products, to support geodetic, geophysical, lunar, and planetary research.
Additionally, the ILRS contributes to the provision of essential data products, such as Earth’s center of mass and scale, which are crucial for the maintenance and improvement of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF).
The ILRS coordinates a global network of permanent and mobile laser-ranging stations, targeting ILRS-approved satellites for both scientific and engineering applications.

Within the framework of the IERS, the ILRS contributes to the realization and maintenance of the ITRF and to the determination of Earth Orientation Parameters (EOPs).
